Omeka Exhibit, Final Project, and Final Thoughts - Return of the Exercises/The History Student Awakens early to finish her project
Oh boy.
An adventure in digital history.
Oh boy.
I loved this module! I took art class throughout high school, so concepts of layout and colour theory were all familiar to me and things that I was comfortable with. That is not to say I did not experience difficulties with it, but I was certainly a lot more comfortable with it than the ones that felt more technical (I'm looking at you, Module 2).
In order to work on this module, I needed to first actually decide what I was doing for my final project, because the instructions said to choose two tools for the module that would help most with my research project. I went to check out the databases provided in the final project's instructions, and I was excited to find the Feeding America one, containing old cookbooks. Cooking is definitely one of my favourite hobbies and I know from experience that old cookbooks can contain some pretty wild information. As well, I know that due to women not being given as much of a voice historically, alternate sources often need to be used to document women's experiences, and cookbooks have certainly been a great place for that.
(I think I will try to vaguely keep the Star Wars theme going with the titles of these blog posts, because why not?) After the frustrations of Module 2, Module 3 was certainly a breath of fresh air. Once again, I did the first three exercises, mostly due to time constraints.
I probably should have written this when I had actually finished the module, but better late than never, right? Anyway, like Episode II of Star Wars, Module 2 was my least favourite module. However, unlike Episode II, it was also the module where I pushed myself the most and learned because of it. I went through the first three exercises for this module.
Well, I am quite behind but working on catching up. I've just finished Exercise 3 and boy howdy, has it been an adventure. By that, I mean I am a little bit grumpy about annoying computer programs.
This is the first test post! It is to test everything is functioning as expected. Hooray, I installed the Jekyll blog!
